Re: Editorial Comment
Taiwan's Bungled Bridge

Your editorial is well written. All the flaws of the Taiwanese government and their failures are clearly stated. You even stated the major available possibilities/opportunities for Taiwan to stay independent from communist rule. If Taiwan is handover to PRC, then the hope of going "status-quo" or independent will no longer to be available. It will be impossible.

It is true that Taiwan is in an absolutely unstable position/status right now, although not very many Taiwanese sees it. They think USA will support Taiwan even if there is an outbreak of war. From the looks of it, USA is gaining more benefits siding with PRC than with Taiwan. Will they sacrifice their benefits and themselves to help a hopeless tiny island? The answer is still in question.

It is also true that it is impossible for Taiwan to go independent and change the name of "Republic of China" to "Republic of Taiwan" all of a sudden. They should go through a series of minor changes just like what you had pointed out clearly.

Having a "NEUTRAL" view, I think reunification, independence or status-quo all don't matter much. As long as the Taiwanese will feel happy about it, without suffering in a way.

To conclude my comment, I would like say your editorial is truly great. It covers all of Taiwan's current political problems clearly.

"kotaishi_kt"

Thank you "kotaishi_kt" for your feedback. I fear/worry for Taiwan and its people a great deal. Although I would like Taiwan to be independent I do not believe now is the time. There are many problems plaguing Taiwan that need to be rectified and corrected. Although Taiwan is an island it has all the problems of a major country and the problems of an island as well. The people of Taiwan and their government need desperately to unify for the good of the entire country. Without unification China will be able to advance its agenda and as a result Taiwan will loose much of what it has gained and become over the years. I believe Taiwan can instead become a beacon to the mainland Chinese people and lead the way to a democratic China (instead of communist). I believe this is the largest fear the Chinese government has about Taiwan. ....May Buddha Bless You

Re: Propaganda on your website

Below is a feedback opinion submitted by Mr. Bayliss. In our spirit of open discussion we present the full text of his feedback and our president's reply. We welcome feedback from all and encourage it. CDOT staff...  May Buddha Bless You

"Since my wife is Taiwanese, I often visited your site in the past for information related to Taiwan and China. I don't visit your site for information about Iraq.

Now your site has suddenly become filled with far-left, anti-American propaganda from organizations that are funded by communists. Considering the fact that Taiwan would not exist if it were not protected by the American military I find it difficult to understand why you promote such obvious lies about the United States.

I will not be visiting your site again and I will be sending a copy of this email to all the companies advertising on your site requesting that they withdraw their advertising.

When the Red Chinese come to kill your family, don't call us."

===========================================================
Dear Mr. Bayliss;

Thank you for your feedback regarding our website

We are sorry you feel as you do. The "News Media" page is designed to show views from all areas of the media community.

Not only do we support Taiwan completely, we also support and believe in the United States. We provide views from all areas, not just those that may be agreeable to yourself.

The United States was created out of free thought and independence of will.

In creating our website we proudly kept these truths in mind.

If you disagree with items presented then speak your mind, as you have done and be proud of it. Don't resort to what could be called "cheap shots".

Taiwan is also a country that was created out of free thought and independence of will. There you will also find many different ways of thinking.

Be proud that Taiwan is very similar to the United States in many ways and as such also allows many different points of view.

The only points of view that are presented by staff are in our editorials section.

As to excluding Iraq, it is part of the news of both the United States and Taiwan. Both countries are being effected by what transpires there.

We at CDOT do not "promote" lies and deception, we offer links to many areas of differing views and opinions so as to make it possible for you the visitor to be able to gain an over-all view of what is being stated by many different people. We believe that for people to make decisions about events, actions, and countries they must be able to research from many different areas.

As to advertising, if you had taken the time to research our website you would have noticed that we accept no paid advertising.

Lastly, you can rest assured that we would never call upon you for help from the Communist Chinese. Considering the tone and nature of your feedback we feel you would be (not only) in agreement with them but also joining their forces in the eradication of our staff and website as well.

We hope you are able to fulfill your search for a website that only presents your point of view and way of thinking...  May Buddha Bless You

Sincerely

Ward Jones
President CDOT

RE: 2-week expense-paid leadership training

Great thanks to Patrick for notifying us of this wonderful opportunity to assist Taiwan. We at CDOT are always more than happy to pass on information that may be of service to Taiwan... May Buddha Bless You

Dear Friends;

Attached please find the Registration Form and info for the 2-week expense-paid Ambassador training program in June sponsored by the Formosa Foundation of Los Angeles, CA.

The Ambassador program is a highly selective leadership training program open for college and graduate school young Taiwanese Americans. Please help publicize this info and encourage your children and their friends to apply.

Patrick (huang tsai-tien)

WHEN: 6/15 to 6/27/03 (week 1: Los Angeles, week 2: D.C.)

WHO: 15 qualified college and graduate students who are either US citizens or permanent residents and are interested in promoting better US-Taiwan relations.

APPLY: all application must be received by 4/30/03

INFO: http://www.formosafoundation.org/Ambassador/
or contact Ms. Echo Lin (JENHUI@AOL.COM)

The Formosa Foundation is proud to announce the Ambassador Program, a highly selective and expense-paid training program geared toward Taiwanese American college and graduate students. The 2-week training program will allow participants to improve their communication and leadership skills, as well as gain insight into the U.S.-Taiwan relation.

An important aspect of the Ambassador Program is that the participants will have the opportunity to hold dialogues with lawmakers during the second week of the training held in Washington, D.C. The Congressmen and Senators would hear first-hand from these young Taiwanese American constituents about our concerns regarding U.S.-Taiwan, U.S.-China issues. Through the Ambassador Program, the Formosa Foundation hopes to cultivate "ambassadors" to the mainstream, who will have acquired the skills and knowledge to discuss Taiwan-related issues with the public.

For more detailed information, please see attached Hanji press release, and website link: http://www.formosafoundation.org/Ambassador/ We ask that you help pass the information onto the members of your organization, either through e-mail distribution, or through your website. The application deadline is April 30, 2002.

RE: Dragons

"It seems incredible, but there's lots of evidence that man lived on earth at the same time as dinosaurs. Only in recent history has mankind forgotten this and replaced reality with the myth of evolution and 100s of millions of years of separation between the two's co-existence."

"Check out http://www.drdino.com sometime. You will find many references and pictures of dinosaurs. For example, in Texas they found human foot prints embedded within dinosaur foot prints. Even as recent as the 1970s a pleoasaur was dragged in by a Japanese fishing boat (pictures). This explains the many cultural tales of dragons being slayed world wide and the burial stones in south America with Indians riding dinosaurs. On another note, they have found gold chains, bells, armor and other man made items within coal mines. The earth isn't as old as evolutionist would like us to think. The Chinese dragon "myths" are likely to be first hand accounts."

The editors of CDOT would like to thank Thomas for providing us with more information on dragons...  May Buddha Bless You

RE: Dragons

We would like to thank Thomas for his recent information about dragons in China. We have reproduced his comment below.

It is unfortunate that a leader in news reporting such as CNN feels the continued dialogue between citizens of the world with relationship to Taiwan and China should be terminated due to their decision as to "non-news worthiness".

A special thank-you to all those who submitted links this month. We at CDOT received so many that it took us many hours to preview all of them. Most links were of such interest and importance that about 95% have been listed. Special thanks to those who submitted Taiwan Aborigine links and articles of interest links. You will find nearly all listed on various pages...  May Buddha Bless You.
